Eating Disorder Therapy
Eating disorders are so much more than “just food issues.” In our fast-paced, image-obsessed culture, they’re often misunderstood or minimized — but if you’re struggling, you already know how deeply they affect every part of your life: your peace of mind, your relationships, your sense of self, and even your physical health.
I’m Emma Demar, LCSW — That Trendy Therapist — and I specialize in helping people break free from the exhausting cycle of eating disorders. Whether you’re dealing with restriction, bingeing, purging, body image distress, or feeling completely out of control around food, you’re not alone, and real recovery is possible.
My Experience
I work with the full spectrum of eating disorders, including:
Anorexia Nervosa
Bulimia Nervosa
Binge Eating Disorder
EDNOS/OSFED
ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder)
Many of the people I support share common themes — perfectionism, the need for control, people-pleasing, trauma, and a shaky sense of identity — but I never treat anyone with a cookie-cutter approach. Your story is unique, and so is your healing journey.
How I Help
In our virtual sessions, we go beneath the surface. Using a psychodynamic lens, we gently explore the root causes and emotional triggers behind your relationship with food. At the same time, we bring in practical tools from CBT and DBT to help you:
Build awareness of your patterns without shame
Develop healthier coping skills that don’t revolve around food
Rebuild a kinder, more compassionate relationship with your body
Reconnect with your authentic self
I also know that eating disorders are rarely a solo battle. When needed, I collaborate with trusted nutritionists, physicians, and higher levels of care (inpatient, IOP, or outpatient programs) to make sure you have the full support team you deserve.
